Here I am

I wish I had more interest in blogging. People can accomplish wonderful things with their blogs. I always think of things I want to write about. There are so many things that I love and I want to share with the world. But there’s always the stress of having to find a steady flow of readers. There is so much clogging up the Internet how will anyone ever find one of  my posts? I’ve also cringed so many times when I go back and look at my old posts. I sound pretentious and contrived. I think I’ve tried too hard in the past to sound like what  think a blogger should sound like. I really want to start posting more and I’ve decided that maybe, it doesn’t matter if I’m the only on reading. Maybe just getting my thoughts out there is all that matters.

I’m pretty behind on shows right now, but of the ones I have seen I can’t say I’ve been falling out of my chair over this season so far. The only show to really stun me has been Alexander Wang. One thing is clear, Nicolas Ghesquière has had a major influence on designers this season. I can’t decide if it makes me frustrated or happy that he’s become an inspiration to other designers. He’s my favorite designer, and just like sometimes we have a “Chanel” moment, I guess this season in New York we’re having a “Balenciaga” moment.

The past few seasons Joseph Altuzarra has been hitting it out of the park, but this latest collection I have to say left me feeling a little nauseous. It was difficult to find any pieces that I like, let alone would wear.

Usually I either love or hate Marc Jacobs. I can’t say I liked everything in the collection, but I have a soft spot for black and white stripes. The striped pieces I would actually wear and would like to have them in my wardrobe. The Edie Sedgwick influence is very apparent, and this is probably why I like the collection so much. She was one of the most stylish people to ever live.

Helmet Lang I actually really liked. While again it is obvious the designers were taking a cue from Ghesquière, I think it translated into cool streetwear which is what I always look to Helmet Lang for. I will probably be purchasing some of these pieces as they are a lot more affordable than Balenciaga.

While I have been mostly underwhelmed, I can say there are a few pieces I really like, such as those leather laced Rodarte pants and that lime green Proenza dress. Maybe it’s because I’m not a huge fan of prints, but labels I typically expect to blow me away aren’t. I have higher hopes from what I’ve been seeing from London. And of course, Paris will save us all.

Enjoy the Alexander Wang show, it’s literally flawless:

Also, goddamn when does Kati Nescher have time to sleep? That girl is everywhere. I can’t complain.

White Hot

My girl Rooney may not have taken home the gold, but she still got the coveted award of best dressed in my book. While she can do no wrong, it was nice to see her in something less expected than her usual black. Givenchy is always exciting to see on the red carpet, because it means one starlet was brave enough to wear real fashion instead of an expected over glitzed prom dress like everyone else (*cough* Marchesa *cough*).
Coming in a very very close second was Gwyneth Paltrow in the always stunningly sexy Tom Ford. While the Fashion Police may have a thing or two to say about the cape, I say, who else could wear a cape and look this good? It’s sleek as hell and it works. It just does. Later in the show she revealed the dress without the cape, still looking gorgeous of course. Tom Ford is another designer that I’m always excited to see on the red carpet, and Gwyneth has the perfect statuesque body for his sultry clothes. I could’ve done without the big ring on the same hand as the diamond cuff, though (my only criticism).
To round out my top three, I’ve chosen Jessica Chastain. Alexander McQueen is eternally my favorite designer and again, always pleased to see it on the red carpet. The detailing is exquisite and black and gold is one of my favorite color pairings. This is one dress I’d love to see up close. She knows how to bring the drama and I’m loving her.

Rag & Bone S/S12

Rag & Bone included a lot of cool separates in bright colors. The different lengths and layers of athletic inspired pieces made for a very contemporary collection.

Piled on layers and mix of textures made the collection feel very urban and wearable. However some looks may be a little too radical for the faint of heart. But for those who prefer to be daring in their dressing, a plastic pencil skirt may be just what they’ve been craving.

The collection definitely makes for a memorable moment at the start of the season and outlined a few trends that are sure to crop up all over.

At first glance this collection may not seem like anything new, but the icy palate leaves a lasting impression. Best of all, the neon orange lips (a trend I’ve become quite fond of) appears to be here to stay after ruling the runways last spring. The collection had hints of retro with modern twists. None of the pieces were terribly daring but very classy and sweet as candy.

The runway itself was particularly attention-grabbing, comprised of uneven white plastic tiles with white squares hanging in the background.

The highlight for me was the hair. The edgy styling seemed to elevate the dainty looks to something a little more cool.
